Wiki-lazy-meme

Tagged by Mella. I tag Tomek, my hubby who has been too busy to blog in the past month.

1. Go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (month and day only): August 18th

2. List events that occurred on that day of interest to you: (I tried to find good news)

1941 - Adolf Hitler orders a temporary halt to Nazi Germany's systematic euthanasia of mentally ill and handicapped due to protests.

1958 - Vladimir Nabokov's controversial novel Lolita is published in the United States.

1963 - American civil rights movement: James Meredith becomes the first black person to graduate from the University of Mississippi.

3.List a Few Birthdays:

1587 - Virginia Dare, first English child born in North America (d. 1588)

1921 - Zdzisław Żygulski, Jr., Polish art historian (what a name! I think I can almost pronounce it correctly.)

1952 - Patrick Swayze, American actor (yum!)

1969 - Edward Norton, American actor (I thought he was awesome in The Illusionist. I'd never heard of him before then.)

1969 - Christian Slater, American actor

1992 - Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and singer/actress Courtney Love

4. List a death:

1227 - Genghis Khan, Khagan of Mongol Empire

5. List a holiday or observance (if any):

Buhe in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church
It involves tying a bundle of sticks together to make a chibo, and setting it on fire while singing songs outside of people's homes. Usually once they sing, the owners of the home will give them bread. The youth singing usually knows of an insulting song for those families in which dont give bread.

August the 18th was also my 5th grade teacher's birthday. I remember this because I was deeply 'in love' with Patrick Swayze and one of the zillion teen magazines I collected listed his birthday.
