So... we received the bulk of LB's clothes thus far as hand-me-downs from AJ, a friend of Tomek's parents. TONS of clothes, easily hundreds of dollars of clothes, but as she had a son after her daughter, she had no use for them. What she didn't give us, she now gives to Salvat!on Army.
And we just received a whole bunch of boy clothes for LG from our friend M who has a 1 year old son. She also gave us a cradle, which we are giving to someone else, along with an infant bath tub because it's much easier to just hop in the tub with LG and bathe him that way.
Anyway, on to my dilemma. I went to a great kids consignment store this past week... and I will totally be buying my kids' clothes there and at swap meets. It just doesn't make sense to buy new clothes, unless for special occasions, getting them a new dress or something.
I've saved all of LB's old clothes, although I did give a bunch of the boy-ish ones to M when her son arrived. Tom thinks we should save them to give to others who have children. I can see saving a bunch for AJ's younger brother when he and his wife have a child, just because she gave us so many clothes. And a bunch for my friend N who has helped me SO much with both LB and LG. She's driven the hour drive out here countless times to help me out, take me to doctor's appointments,... brought lunch and fed me. Just an incredible amount of generosity. And at my shower for LB she gave me a breast-feeding pillow and 24 cloth diapers. I'm saving all that for her, and I'd like to save clothes for her because she was so great. I don't really see the point in saving clothes for Tom's bro, for example because his bro alone makes more than Tom AND his wife has a full-time job that makes more than I ever earned. They gave us generous gifts when LG and LB first arrived, and the other occasional gift and I can see doing that in kind.
So, that's what Tom thinks we should do--but I'd like to sell a bunch of the clothes that are still in good condition and make some money. It goes without saying that we need the money... and well... I could consign them and if nothing else, use the money I get from selling their old clothes to buy them "new" ones.
But is that being too greedy? Turning around and selling gifts?

I am currently obsessed with ebay, so I would say "Sell them!". Or at least part of them. As you said you could at least trade them in for newer ones.
i dont know. i dont see a problem with seeling them. you can turn around and let whatever money you make on them fund the next few months of clothes.
we sold all of cadie a brook's clothes from when they were little girls. we wish we hadn't now that little e is on the way.
I agree, sell 'em! They (the in-law's) aren't going to want all of the clothes. Keep a few cute outfits for them. I promise you, it feels amazing to de-clutter some of the closets/drawers every-so-often. Plus, the extra money is a nice perk.
