boom boom goes your little heart

I finally had my first prenatal appointment today. After nearly an hour wait and a fire drill, I was granted my 3.78 minute long appointment (which begs the question why are the waits so long when the appointments are so short?).

A strong heartbeat came over the monitor, at 155 beats/minute. That's about as fast as LB's heart was.

The doctor also measured my uterus and said she wouldn't be surprised if I was farther along than the other doctor said I was because my uterus is now up to my belly button.

But I'm still sitting at my normal weight: 120 lbs. Hmm.

I'm so glad to hear things went well. So, did she tell you how far along she thought you were?

Yay for heartbeats!

And, as the belly bump picture showed, it's all baby. I'm not surprised the scale hasn't budged.

mella: :) double yay! this pregnancy so far has been way different than LB's. I don't crave KFC poutine this time around. yet.

I noticed my daughter's pulse a few days ago, she's just over two, and I noticed it was fast. I've wondered at what age does our pulse start to slow down.

I can imagine hearing a number of women being upset with you for maintaining your weight. I say great news for you!

phil: I gained 40 lbs with LB and the first doctor i saw said I should only gain 22 lbs. That seems like very little to me, but with my cravings for fast food being non-existent (so far) I could be well on my way to a healthier weight gain this time around. Although with LB my blood pressure was always low, and I did lose all the weight, so I'm not sure really how unhealthy it was for me.

I've always heard that for the most part your body is going to do what it's going to do when you're pregnant - if it needs to gain 40 pounds, it'll do so, even inspite of your best efforts to be "healthy"

Of course, there are always exceptions to this, like the women I've known who do eat (and eat and eat and eat) and then go on to gain, say 70 pounds. At which point, it's clearly not so much their body doing it's job.

My doctor recommended 25-30 pounds for me, and I gained 30 with each. I've only ever heard of being told to gain less than 25 if you're "overweight" to begin with (which you clearly are not...)

You'll be totally fine, especially since you lose it all so quickly last time around. Piece of cake. Er...perhaps, slice of apple instead?

Piece of cinnamon bun, please! Or a whole one! (They're kind of difficult to cut, being so gooey with icing and cinnamony goodness...)
