If your baby is depressed, give 'em Prozac

One in 40 babies experience baby blues, "experts" say

This is the part I liked best:

Although it's not very common, there are two telltale signs of baby depression, experts say.

First, depressed babies do not exhibit a lot of emotion. Second, depressed babies may have trouble eating or sleeping, and may be irritable.

Hm, gee. Did LB exhibit a lot of emotion when she was a newborn? Nope. Does she sometimes have trouble sleeping? Yep. Did she used to have trouble eating? Yep. Is she irritable sometimes? Hell yeah.

Is she depressed?

Hell no!

She sometimes has trouble sleeping, or more accurately, getting to sleep. But a nice long walk, or a bit of breast milk does the trick every time. She used to have trouble eating because her lower jaw was underdeveloped. If she's hungry, or in pain or overly tired and I miss the signs, yes, she will be irritable.

Articles like this make me sick.

Yeah, and the excessive diagnosis of attention deficits is also crazy - kids have short attention spans, it is not abnormal.

My cat is on prozac. . . . (seriously). . . .

Do you think I am over-medicating him? Maybe we should go and see an animal psychiatrist. . . find out why he is depressed. . . (stupid cat) Maybe it's because his owner mentally abuses him and calls him names.

I know, cats, babies, not quite the same thing. . . .

And another thing. . . Why is my child refusing to go to sleep tonight? I am going loopy waiting for her to crash. . . and it just ain't happening. . . .

Maybe my cat is depressed and my 6 month old has ADD. (And I am an insomniac (more like a narcoleptic), but I have ornery child related insomia).

Where am I going with this? I have no idea. . .

It's a good thing I am not a doctor because I am pretty sure I misdiagnosed everyone in my housewold.

And it's really hard writing a comment without my glasses on or contacts in. . . SQUINT.

It's amazing how quickly one gets cold when sitting at the computer with no clothes on in the middle of November.

And there's my cue to end this. . . . ( enjoy all of that infotmation you never wanted to know about me).
