Crash, tinkle, tinkle

Tomek was driving home from a service call a couple days ago when he stopped for a lady at a crosswalk (I think) and some guy in a cube van, in an attempt to pass him, nailed the left rear corner of his car, smashing the light and putting a nice gouge in the side. We've been talking for a while about getting him a different vehicle, because he drives this:which is not exactly the most practical vehicle for his line of work. And he's pretty much driven it into the ground. (But yes, it is a hot car, turbo and all, and I remember feeling pretty damn cool driving around in it with him. I bet Tomek never thought I'd say that!)

Soo... he went to this repair shop that his buddy from work recommended. He said the guys there would make a quote and then do the work for less so he could pocket some of the cash. Hm. They quoted him $2700. The dude who hit him doesn't want to go through ICBC because it was a work truck he was driving and if he reports the accident he figures his boss will fire him, since this is the second time he's nailed a car while driving it. Did I mention he didn't have his license on him at the time either?

Tomek told the guy the quote and he flipped. Said he knew some guys who could do the work for much less. Tomek came back at him saying that he knows the guys he saw will do good work, doesn't know about these other guys. Getting confused yet?

So then, Tomek suggested the guy pays him a grand more than the cost of the repairs and he can have the car outright. Fix it up if he wants to, resell it, and make some $. I really think we need to get rid of the car before something big on it blows, because then there is no way in hell we are going to be able to sell it, and we have to get SOMETHING for it.

The guy has yet to say yes or no, but he sounds interested. If everything goes well, Tomek will then be driving my car during the interim... before we become a...

minivan family.

If that doesn't scream grown-ups! I don't know what would.

* * *

In other news, I've decided to give this a shot.

And I've succumbed to this. *sob*

Bummer, but maybe good right? I mean, new car perhaps... with all the $ I've been dropping on my decade-old vw, I've been flirting with the idea of a new car too... but I doubt anything will come of it.

If "minivan family" weirds you out, then maybe you can ponder a "suv soccer mom" thing.

What are you going to publish?

And, look me up on myspace as "shenry" and drop me a friends request... god, I strongly dislike myspace.

shenry: i think i'd prefer minivan to an suv. i drove a chevy astro one summer when my first vw was temporarily retired and baking on the driveway. found you on myspace, sent a friends request. the way the whole thing works just makes no sense to me, but it's the people that make it addicting. already my lil bro found me on it... publishing poetry perhaps. did you ever get my V poem?

ghost: i know i know...*hangs head in shame*

raven: YES AAAHHH!!!

we're going the compact station wagon route... I still can't get my head around a minivan. :)

I have a sortof minivan/SUV; Buick Rendevous. I'm also on the evil myspace. You can find me under Shenry's friend page. I agree completely with you that it's the people on there, not the site itself that makes it addicting. Hope you all are doing wonderfully!
