A few days ago I made a passing reference to some in-law stuff, that suddenly didn't seem important in the wake of a friend who was going through a pretty rough time (it all ended very happily, by the way). The morning after Tomek told me about my SIL telling my MIL that maybe I don't want to keep in touch because I didn't reply to her email, I sent her the following response. She hasn't responded yet.
Do I sound snarky?
Hi SIL,
Tom talked to his mom last night and he told me she said his brother told her that you mentioned you'd sent me a number of emails and I hadn't replied. This is the last email I received from you that I didn't reply to. I'm sorry I'm not quick to reply, but it can't be helped. Often during the day I do have time to check my email, but I am usually holding LB and I can't type a reply. Throughout the day, she needs to be fed about every 3 hours, from the start of one feed to the next. Feeding and burping her takes about an hour and a half. So that leaves me an hour and a half to nap if I'm tired, or do some tidying up, try to unpack, organize our new home, eat, bathe, do laundry, etc before she wakes up to be fed again. And now often during the day she doesn't nap between feedings--she likes to just hang out with me, so we go for a walk, or just sit and spend time together. During that time I do not get anything done around the house, or work towards any of my other tasks, like getting her a passport, changing my drivers' license, paying bills, groceries, meals, as well as chiropractic appointments, lactation specialist appointments, finding her a good pediatrician, etc. And in the evenings, Tomek, LB and I try to have some "us" time by going for a walk. But often Tomek has his own things to do, or he is helping with feeding LB or doing dishes or any of the other innumerable things that need to be done around here.
So to answer your questions finally, yes we are all doing well, although we are tired. But that is to be expected. LB is often up until midnight with a feeding and then again around 4... and tomek always gets up and helps me with the feeding and he has to get up at 6 to go to work, so i think he is more tired than I am. I have not tried the recipe yet. I haven't had time to cook at all, other than to fry some perogies and reheat some food my mom brought us. LB is gaining weight very well. She got weighed today and is 10lbs 11oz. that's almost 3 lbs above her birth weight.
Thank you for the pictures. I'm attaching a few recent ones of LB. I'm glad you are enjoying your new job.
Cheers,
Phx

In my opinion, you answered perfectly. I don't mean to be too nosy, but does your SIL have any kids? It appears to me that she doesn't, otherwise she would know WHY you don't have any time.
No she doesn't have kids. They've only been married 3 months longer than us, and she's actually only been in the country for a couple of months. And even though they've been married for longer, they've only been living together for a couple months (compared to me and Tomek: over 2 years) because she just immigrated from part of what used to be Russia.
Snarky? It's starts off a little abrasive, like the first 2 sentences, but you needed to call her out and you couldn't necessarily avoid starting the email that way. After that it's all good. It's polite, and fact-based, and devoid of any real emotional commitment to the recipient and the situation the set in motion the email.
