Haven't "popped" yet

A guy at the recycling depot said to me yesterday, "Ready to pop, eh?" Not the imagery I would have chosen.

Let's see... no, I haven't popped yet. Tomek made it home safe and sound on Thursday night--my mom also arrived Thursday evening. Together, she and I drove around and around trying to find where Tomek was waiting. And I did a really stupid thing. I was driving around and around this loop, and saw to my left, a shorter way to cut through the loop. I'd already driven it a few times and knew I was in the wrong place; I was talking to Tomek on the phone at the time, and I decided to go left instead of straight. So I start moving my car over to the left, and I hear this squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaal of locked tires behind me. I looked to my left, and a taxi had just missed totally crunching me. I told Tom I had to go, and hung up. I pulled back over to the right and continued driving, hoping the taxi would just go left and the guy wouldn't follow me and yell at me. No such luck. I pulled over to look at a map and he stopped beside us on the right. And started to yell, What for you talk on phone while drive???!!! I yelled back, I'm sorry!! And he continued, You almost got keeelled!! At which point I was remember that my car had basically been coasting when I he almost hit me, and with the amount of noise his tires made, he must have really slammed on his brakes to avoid me, meaning he probably was going well above the 30 km/h posted speed limit (as taxis are likely to do). So I yelled back, Well why don't you slow down?!!!

Then his tone totally changed and he stopped yelling and asked me what I was looking for. My mom told him and he said the plane would come in where we were and drove off. Well, we already knew it wasn't going there, it was stopping at some Million Air's club. So I continued around and eventually found it, and Tomek. But I've been driving like shit ever since.

I've never seen him look as exhausted as he did when we pulled up. He was thrilled to see me, but could barely keep his eyes open. He worked 51 hours in 3 days, and only slept twice. On the flip side, from working those 3 days he is going to get paid well over what he makes in 2 weeks at his regular job.

And last night a guy he knows called him about an electronics technician job that has come up that pays more than he's making now. He's going to apply.

On Friday our lawyers meeting went all right but it was a bit stressful--especially when it turned out all the documents were drawn up as if we are paying our mortgage monthly, so the first payment date was Sept. 1... when in fact since we are paying bi-weekly, our first mortgage payment is actually August 4. Which means we will be paying rent and mortgage for the month of August. That royally pisses me off. But I don't see us moving before the end of July. I don't want to push myself to do that. Enough is enough. Everything is 99.99% done, and we will likely have the keys in our hands on Thursday.

On Saturday a baby shower was thrown for me. The girl who threw it for me did an amazing job--I wouldn't say she and I are "friends"... we are more like casual acquaintances, but she really wanted to throw me a bachelorette party before my wedding--only her idea of one was to go out drinking and salsa dancing. I really didn't want to do that, and I also didn't want to be bypassing my maid of honour if she decided she was going to throw me something. Which she did. I noticed a while back that my post where I wrote about Tom's surprise bachelor party got cut off right when I started talking about my bachelorette party. My mom drove all the way up here and back down South in one day, staying just for the party that day. I had no clue about it. My maid of honour just called me the morning of the shower and told me she'd just heard a message on her answering machine from her mom and her dad was in the hospital. She didn't know why and she was wondering if I could drive over and take her and her boys to the hospital. I didn't shower, eat or anything. I just threw on some clothes and drove over as fast as I could. And when I stepped into her house, I got blasted with Surprise!! from her living room. It was an awesome surprise, and a really fun, laid-back party.

Back to the baby shower, it all turned out well, although 2 people who said they'd make it never showed or called. Two of my co-workers showed up (the two that I used to have such problems with, but they were both so "wounded" that they weren't invited to my wedding, I thought, fuck it and invited them), as well as my mom, Tom's mom and another friend of mine. So it was a small group, but the company, food, bevys, games, and presents were great. One of the games involved melted chocolate in diapers and we had to guess what kind of chocolate bar it had been. I won't be able to eat chocolate for a while, I don't think--especially since the Snickers bar turned into a total corn poopie (with the peanuts).

But Tomek and I have a ton of baby stuff now. Only thing is, the crib still isn't finished being stripped and sanded, the car seat isn't installed, the change table pillow hasn't been attached to the top of the dresser, my hospital bag isn't packed and I have NO idea if I have enough clothes for a newborn. But I do have LB's coming home outfit picked out from the clothes we do have.

And we have lots of disposable and cloth diapers (enough to last a couple of days anyway), a breast-feeding pillow, a mobile for the crib which plays Brahms lullaby (which was the lullaby on my brothers' mobile and the song I kind of insisted on having the mobile play), plenty of receiving blankets and burp cloths and towels and the like... AND (this one is Tom's favourite, I think) a Snugli:
So now I'm back into another week of puttering around at home while Tomek works. Not that there isn't a ton of stuff to do. I've been trying to get down to do our 4 loads of laundry since this morning but some dumbfuck cut in front of my time so now I have to wait another hour before they are done. I can't wait to have in-suite laundry. Those machines are worth their weight in gold to me already! And the dumbfolks at Toys R Us didn't remove the security tag from the Snugli so I have to go get that removed, do groceries, write thank-you cards to my baby shower guests, and get back on the #$%#$^@$#^@^% wedding thank you cards.

Oh and I should shower, too. Heh.

just thinking about that diaper game is making me want to run from chocolate. lol

I hated playing those games. Although I would love to see some of my family members faces if we played the chocolate in the diaper game!

Hang in there, you'll get it all done. As far as clothes for LB, it depends on how long you'll be in the hospital. Definitely have at least 3 outfits. One to go home in, as well as one for the picture they'll take while in the hospital and one just to let LB be comfortable in.

Also, yes, Snugli's are great, but have you thought about sling? They are great for nursing wee ones (if that's what you're going to do) while you're out and about.

I'm looking over your baby accessories and I'm noticing a total lack of breast pumps. Really, you should look into a multi-speed, variable suction breast pump. And if you don't want Tomek to gum up your pump then you should get him his own.
