Pushing forward

So it’s finally in the works. A tutoring centre that I can run and make BIG and help kids realize that they ARE bright and they CAN learn anything they want to.

(While working full-time for one company, and part-time for another, of course.)

First step, promo. To be done after part-time job this weekend:

1. Local libraries have a free board where one can post notices/advertisements. I have used this before and gotten editing work through it. Most local libraries have these. I will probably stick to the higher-trafficked libraries (gas prices… ouch!). These notices only stay up for one week, so I’ll try for a month and see how many reaches we get.

2. 8 1/2x11 poster is almost ready to go—I just need a graphic and to update the legal info at the bottom. Once approved, I’m hoping to paste it all over the local notice boards, and I’m going to call community centres this weekend to see what they have in the way of notice boards.

3. I am going to get a cling-on decal for the back windshield of my car. The layout I have in mind right now is this:

Traveling tutor on board!
“-insert snappy quote-something about the caliber of tutoring we deliver..-“
web site
phone number

Since they are cling-ons I’d like to ideally have one for each tutor employed by me, so when they are out doing tutoring, that’s more exposure.

4. I need to find any education-related events where I can have a booth and probably do surveys and talk to parents and find out what’s needed and wanted from them—what they aren’t getting from their child’s school.

Sounds like you've got all of your ducks in a row. Good luck, stay focussed, keep your head above the water, I'm sure you'll succeed.

It doesn't hurt to also have a business lisence. Maybe look into it and see if it's necessary at this stage in the game. You will definitely need a lisense if you start to employ other tutors. I know the legalities of this may be boring, but they are VERY important.

Thanks guys. :) I'm glad it's finally getting somewhere.

Phoe-I have the good fortune of knowing a woman who just started a school here, and the tutoring centre is going to be part of the school. she already has the business license and all that jazz... but I'll check and see if i need one just in case.
