Mmmm, "diet" candy

So, the sale of "diet" candy has quadrupled since 2000.

This rise is being heralded as something that is going to help so many people lose weight while making it possible for them to continue enjoying their favourite junk foods.

Yum.

Aspartame, anyone?

How have these people been fooled into thinking that "diet" foods are healthier than regular foods?

This web-site's introduction begins:

This page exists solely to try and spread the word about the numerous & serious dangers of regular aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal) consumption. Currently the 100+ articles on this page contain facts & opinions from over 50 doctors & nutritionists, many of which have each "cured" their patients of many symptoms (including weight gain) simply by removing aspartame from their diet. These 50+ doctors strongly recommend avoiding all aspartame products.

Why, if aspartame is so unhealty, are these diet food sales on the rise?

I am so glad I was raised in a family that uses naturopathic medicine, and who has a family chiropractor who is aware of these wide-spread health deceptions.

I had an internet buddy with whom I have sadly lost contact who was a phd in chemistry at Carlton in Ottawa (or was it U of O, I can't recall). He told me in no uncertain terms about the evils of aspartame. Up until then I had been weary about it, and having a bmi in the low 20's all of my life, I never saw the need for diet anything. Since then I have been avoiding it like the plague. Google stevia to learn about a natural alternative to sugar or aspartame that the FDA rejected to protect the sugar and aspartame industry.

Phil, my mom uses Stevia. I rarely drink coffee or tea, but when I do, I sweeten it with brown sugar or (ideally) honey. (Both are cheaper than Stevia... though probably not as good for me.)

And I guess I'm lucky that I don't like pop. It doesn't quench my thirst... only water does.

I wonder how corrupt the FDA is... after all, they are finally coming around about amphetamines.

I learned the dangers of aspartame from Suzanne Somers's books. Who knew Chrissy Snow was such a nutritionist? I try to use splenda when possible but its probably just a matter of time until we find out it's going to kill us too.
