Online job searching is a crock. All the jobs look like shit--uninteresting, unfulfilling and menial. Where are all the make-a-difference jobs? It's looking like those are the kind I'll create myself. I don't have the resources to do that--I don't know what I can do. I think I'd like to tutor, and get my drug-free education web site going, but where is the money going to come from? Why can't I find a stable, satisfying job? All the education sector jobs are teaching jobs or clerical... and they seem to want a hell of a lot of experience.
Maybe I should try writing for a health magazine I know of... I don't know. I wish there was something interesting out there.

I don't fit

I think the proportion of make-a-difference jobs as compared to menial jobs is not very good. I know on someone else's blog (since I am a random blog-jumper) the guy was on the fence about joining the peace-corps. I posted to his blog telling him that where he was in his life (just a bit behind you as he doesn't have a SO) was the best time to do this. I doubt that doing something like that is something you can do, but do make a difference, you'll really need to either do something on your own which will require a lot of commitment and energy, or join an organization that already exists that you feel you can support. It isn't the job that will let you make a difference unless you really luck out, it is what you do with your time after you've taken care of paying your bills.
I believe that a job/career is just a means to an end... that end being everything that happens outside of work. Obviously, not everyone feels the same. On the plus side, you are in a good position from a logistical standpoint. Stay at your job so that the money keeps rolling in while you actively and aggressively pursue other avenues. This way you don't sell yourself short. If you didn't have a job right now, you may have to jump at the next Starbucks barista opening just to make ends meet. I really think that you're in a good logistical position.
